Like Father, Like Son

People ask us who Wyatt looks most like. While sometimes I think he looks a little like my brother's baby pictures, all I have to do is look at these and know exactly to whom he belongs.

He's starting to laugh more now. Last night my brother had his giggling as much as we've heard. My sister in law taped it, and I'll try to get it up when she sends it to me. So adorable!

Good thing we didn't wait much longer to try this outfit on! At three months Randy weighed 13 lbs. and 12 oz. Saturday we weighed Wyatt and know he weighs at least 13 lbs, but the scale didn't show ounces.

Sleep Stories

I have posts to update and pics to upload...I just need time to do it! This one, however, is worth sharing with no photos.

I have gotten more sleep in the past two nights than I have since well before Wyatt was born. It's LOVELY. Wednesday night Wyatt slept longer than Randy and woke up at 10 till 6 for his first feeding. Then this morning he slept till 7 AM!!! All this after a week of getting up to pop the binki in his mouth 5-7 times a night and dealing with fussy naptimes. And you know what the solution is? My son has finally found and basically committed to...his thumb. We would have preferred the binki...you can take a binki away eventually. But Wyatt has willfully chosen his thumb. A couple of times over the last month we have removed his thumb from his mouth and popped the binki in. He has spit out the binki and promptly popped his thumb back in.

He's been playing with his fist, his fingers, and his thumb for the last couple of weeks, but I think he's finally found and really figured out the thumb.

Ahhhh....blissful sleep!

MMMM...cake

Wyatt got to attend his own baby shower last week, and I must say, I think it's more fun that way! Randy's office through us a shower, and one of his co-workers made a beautiful cake. She even used fondant! Impressive. They also blessed us with a gift card to Target for the next big item...the next carseat when it's time.

Speaking of new things...we're trying new dipes. We have 26 bumgenius dipes with velcro, which I've heard can wear out toward the end of the first year (thankfully, there's a way to replace it with snaps). Fuzzibunz released their one-size dipe around the time Wyatt was born, and there's a lot of buzz around it. These have snaps and adjust with elastic. We got four last week, and I'm just not convinced yet. There are six snaps to figure out every time I put on a dipe. Needless to say, I'm not using these at the 4 am feedings.

Oh, and Wyatt slept till 5 AM this morning. Glorious.

Birthdays & Rooster Tails

Tuesday was Randy's birthday. He has now hit the mid-30s, which seems to be much worse than 30 actually was for him. He got an impact driver and a Kathie Girst cake. MMMMmmm...

Wednesday night we went out to the farm for dinner with his parents. Wyatt went sporting this...

The rooster tail is a little hard to see against the chair. That afternoon Wyatt got a bath (from which I walked away wet - that boy loves to splash!) and then went down for a nap. When he woke up he had his dad's rooster tail and his grandpa's curl. Grammie said Daddy had it coming after all the times she tried to get his rooster tail to lay down. Now he just cuts it off!

We came home that night with the produce section from the grocery store! Mom and Dad Regehr's garden is much larger than ours and doing better than ours this year. They sent broccoli, cabbage, anaheim peppers, zucchini, and summer squash.

We also brought home a pan of Mom's super secret frozen chocolate marshmallow dessert and several pieces of Randy's birthday cake - a double chocolate peanut butter rich chunk of yumminess. Add that to the Kathie Girst cake and the leftover cupcakes and we have a sugar overload in our house!

Wyatt Likes Cake

Wyatt definitely looks like a part of our family in this picture! No, I didn't really give him cake, just smeared him with a little chocolate! I was making cupcakes during his nap and he spit out his binki. Without realizing that my fingers were covered in chocolate, I picked up his binki and tucked it between his adorable lips. The next time he spit it out, this is the sight I saw...my 11 week old son with chocolate cupcake batter all over his face! I'm sure it's only the first of many times I'll see this sight...only he'll be a little older.


Wyatt likes his naps. That's a happy thing for his mommy and daddy. He'll fuss and cry letting you know he's tired. The moment you lay him in his crib and swaddle him up, he grins in a thank you for letting him nap. Sometimes he smiles so much he won't hold his binki in, and then he's out like a light.

Today is Randy's birthday, so we'll have more pictures later!

The Nielsons

I've never been one to reply to surveys I get online or in the mail. But about six months ago we received a very short simple survey from Nielson TV Ratings. When I opened the envelope out fluttered two crisp dollar bills. For two dollars, why not? A few months ago we received another survey, this one slightly longer but still short and simple. This time they sent us $6. That's two cups of coffee or an ice cream date with my hubby. Once again, we filled it out and sent it back. Monday we received another envelope from the Nielsons. This time they paid for a full date (maybe two because we always split at restaurants)! Thirty dollars and in return they asked us to keep a TV diary for a week. They make it simple and considering how much TV we watch, this is an easy task. We started today, and I think it's going to be an interesting exercise. We probably watch a whole lot more than we think.

So...if the Nielsons ever send you mail, it's worth it to respond!

Wyatt's also been discovering some new toys today.
This mirror belongs on the living room wall, but I need to touch up the paint and fix the frame a bit before it goes back up. This week Wyatt has been discovering mirrors and thinks they're awfully fun!

We've also been trying out the Bumbo. I have to admit, he's not really holding his head up that well without help, but he's getting close! He had fun this morning reach for his keys and banging on the table. It's much easier to pick things up when you're sitting up rather than lying down all the time.

Catching Up...Again

Goodness, I'm getting bad at this. In my defense, blogger has not been letting me post for some reason for the last couple of days.

Last week Wyatt had his two month appointment and shots...oh did he scream but not for long. Poor boy. He was 12 lbs even and 23 1/2" long. And he's sleeping! Thankfully, so in Mom - yay! Two weeks ago he started extending his night and his feeding times. He dropped the 1:30 feeding, and kept his 4:30 feeding for awhile. Then this last night he went almost 8 hours between feedings and slept until 5:30. He didn't even wake up and cry for his binki last night. It was glorious! Especially since the night before he woke up every hour starting at 1:00. Mommy definitely needed sleep last night!

He keeps developing so fast. He's grabbing the rings on his play gym and rolling over onto his side. And he smiles and laughs at us constantly. He's so much fun!

I need to get back to taking pictures. This is the best I have of him in the last two weeks. Pathetic.

Wyatt's 4th of July was rather boring for him. We watched our neighbor's fireworks from the patio, and he slept through them all. But Mommy and Daddy were just too tired to venture out.

Four years ago when Randy bought the house we painted almost every room over the 4th of July weekend. This year we decided to repaint the living room. It was Martini Olive Green...But the room faces north and the green just made it dark during the day. We were ready for something lighter, so we decided on a creamy yellow...or so we thought. I wish I could capture in pictures how primary light yellow Carolina Inn Lobby Yellow looked...especially with the red kitchen. I didn't say much at first because it was such a change from the green. All I could think was "I hope it dries darker." By that evening, it was obvious that I not convinced. It didn't grow on me like we hoped...it only got worse. Especially when I realized that I had failed to hold the paint chip up to the curtains. We were going to have to change a lot of accessories to make the daycare yellow work. Thankfully, my husband was sweet and ran to Home Depot first thing Saturday morning for a gallon of Baked Scone. Ahhhh....so much better! We also painted the rest of the trim that we quit painting four years ago.

I love our living room now. It's light and bright, and the white trim looks finished and new (well, as new as 50 year old trim can look).
