Snow Day!

Yesterday Wyatt and I stayed inside and watch 8 inches of snow fall to the ground without much wind or drama. It was almost like a MN snow.

It started Thursday night.


Then it snowed most of the day yesterday, and today we went out side for Wyatt's first romp through the snow. Daddy took pictures from the shoveled part of the patio.



Okay, maybe "romp" is an overstatement.



And in true "I Like Cake" spirit, we made a cake last night. Wyatt gets sooo excited when he sees the Kitchenaid mixer come out. He has to be right there to see the ingredients go in. And the new thing is watching the cakes bake.

Army crawls, crazy hair, and forts

This morning I realized that on Tuesday Wyatt will be 3/4 of a year old. Already. He's gained a lot of new skills this month. Army crawling for example. And walking around our furniture...only to the left though. He sprouted four teeth this month and had his first ear infection last week. He scoots to places like the toilet all. the. time. And he's loves pulling books off his bookshelf. He's getting braver about standing - look, Mom, only one hand! Enjoy the month in pictures!

I love making noise when I pull my books off the shelf...it makes a really fun mess, too!

I often have seriously crazy hair. And it's really long over my ears. Mom is contemplating cutting it, but I think I'll get by for awhile...I not even 9 months old!

I tried cinnamon rolls this month...YUM! I could have eaten the whole thing but they only let me have a little bit. Daddy let me lick his plate clean. :-)

And today I was introduced to "my" tupperware cupboard. Mom said she's been preparing for this and since I got brave enough to crawl around the kitchen floor this week, this is my treat. I thought I was going to get in trouble the whole time!

Discipline = No Target

This January I decided to do something new...a no-spend month. I'm not super strict about it, and I'm not imposing it on my hubby. But I need to practice discipline, so unless it's a necessary item, I'm not buying it. That means no wandering strolls through Hobby Lobby checking out clearance fabric that I have no plans for I'm sure I'll use for something and must buy because it's SO cute and it's a great deal. It means no hunts through the Target clearance racks for $3 shirts or $ 1.50 chunky earrings. It means no buying a pair of pants for Wyatt because they're $2...I did carry them through Walmart yesterday, but discipline won...YAY!

It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. And this isn't even a normal month. I got to go to Hobby Lobby and buy fun fabric and paper to get centerpieces ready for our women's Bible study at church. I've made a couple of baby gifts. I've been slowly working on a shopping cart cover my mil and I are working on together. And it's still hard!

I've only made two trips to Target this month and managed to stick to my list, managing only a glance at the earrings as I walked by. I haven't even bought gloves to replace the ones I lost. But I must admit, I'm glad there are only 9 days left in the month. I should have started a running list of how much money I've saved by putting things back or by avoiding sales I saw in the Sunday paper. This is good for my discipline because goodness knows, I don't need things. I should do this more often....but maybe not in February.

A little handmade fun

For Christmas I made my nieces - the three art queens - art smocks from my apron book. So. much. fun. I hope they have fun with them.


Last weekend Randy made a cake for Aunt Janell's birthday. A very chocolatey cake with a truffle filling, topped with ganache. Yum. I decorated it with white chocolate flowers, butterflies, and j's. It was fun, and while quite amateur, I'd like to take a cake decorating class. Anyone want to join me?

Grammie and Justin made Wyatt his first snowman. He was not impressed. His father's son? I think so. Although I will say he was a very tired boy and it didn't take much to make him cry that evening. I personally like the grass arms and the carrot nose. Thanks, Grammie & Justin!

Quiet Time Book

I've been really pathetic about posting Christmas pics. I just haven't downloaded them from my camera. And now Wyatt started army crawling, so one of these days we're going to have a really long post.

So, while I'm being lazy about pics, I'll let my sil do the work. :-) My mom spent a lot of time and love making two quiet time books for Christmas. One went to my niece Addie and Wyatt was priveleged to get the other one. The two are mostly alike although they each have a couple unique pages. Click here forLindsay's post for pics. Wyatt's cover is chocolate brown with lime green polka dots. We're going to have so much fun with it in the coming years. Thanks Mom for all of your love and hard work!!!

Random Finds

My purses have gotten bigger over the years, which is great until they become a catch all for everything, which it did over the holidays. This morning I found:

- 3 jump drives
- 3 of Wyatt's plastic rings
- 1 of Wyatt's wooden dinosaurs
- 2 necklaces
- 1 pair of earrings
- 1 kitchen scrubby
- 1 mini teddy bear cookie cutter
- 1 pack of needles
- 2 halves of a cloth ball in process
- 1 little scissors
- Aqua blue embroidery thread
Plus all the other stuff that's normally there.

I also found a couple new items in Wyatt's mouth over the last week. For Christmas he sprouted his first front tooth (bottom), and this morning I found it's next door neighbor. A New Year's resolution to chew and try new foods?
